Drumrolll…………WOAH!

And just like that I was transferred, and had to depart from my beloved Parque Celeste to embark on a new adventure here in Penapolis, a city here close to Matto Grosso.  And as I sit here typing out this email I have am already here, in the library, writing as fast as I can and thinking about how my suitcases are way too heavy and also about how much I will love this new place. Here are a few things I can tell you about how these next 6 weeks of my life will be:

  • My Companion, Sister Dias, is from Fortaleza, and she arrived here in the mission field 6 weeks before me. She loves to sing and joke (from what I’ve heard of her) and so that means that it’ll be a party.
  • Also, Sister German, a sister in the mission who I have loved since day one, will be living with me, #score.
  • Anddd, here in Penapolis it is a branch, with a frequency of 65 or so, but the list of members has 400 people.
  • The members here LOVE the missionaries, and of course, we love them too!
  • Also this area is nearly the hottest area here in the mission that has Sisters, buuut right now is winter, so,,, #score *(again)

I just know that I will love it here, and, that, as always, the lord is preparing his children to receive the gospel.  Now it’s my job to use his help and find them!

As for last week, I didn’t expect to feel so sad leaving Parque Celeste, but I know that here in Penapolis, I am in the right place. Having said that, last week in Parque Celeste was full of awesome experiences, and we were blessed by the lord. There is a young man there, Marcos, who is almost ready to be baptized! I am so grateful that I was able to know him, and am excited to hear of his progress.

Parque Celeste will now have a trio of sisters, and I am excited to hear from them about Marcos and everyone else there whom I love there!

My time is already up (sorry) buuuut…, I hope you all have a rockin’ week and eat lots of ice cream and therefore have lots of felicidades!

Have Faith have hope, live like his son, help Others on their way! What does he ask? Live like his son!

Sei Lá sobre o que fallar neste email… (e feliz Pascoa)

Translation- I don’t know what to say in this email… (and Happy Easter)

Então,

I feel like I am losing a bit of steam on these weekly emails. It’s not that things don’t happen or that I don’t have anything to say, but sometimes I just don’t do a very good job at writing (aka if you have questions or anything that you would like to know, help a Sister out and shoot me an email:).

Happy (late) Easter to everyone! This was the first Easter of my life in which I didn’t eat any eggs or anything shaped like an egg on Easter. But you can be certain that it wasn’t an Easter where I let the commercialism of Easter get in the way of thinking of the Savior. For anyone who hasn’t yet seen the new video of the church this Easter, it’s here at mormon.org  (english version) and its one you NEED to see  https://www.mormon.org./pascoa   #PrinceOfPeace

Well, this week was full of teaching my companion nonsense in English, such as “whose your daddy,  I´m your daddy” or “haters gonna hate”, interviews with president (always the best ever) and something funny about this week is that president, in my interview with him, asked how long I had been in the mission, and when I said 9 months he said, “Wow Sister it’s all over.  You’re already done!”  That’s a little dramatic I think, president, haha 🙂

I wanted to spend the bulk of my email talking about the miracles of the week, which, a majority  of them were related to Marcos, I think I’ve already talked about him, right?  This week, we focused on helping him gain a testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith, and we watched the movie Jospeh Smith: Prophet of the Restoration, with him, and his sister Antonia…. AND THE SPIRIT DID THE WORK THIS WEEK AND WAS AN ANSWER TO OUR PRAYERS!  Because when we got there before watching the film, he told us he had not yet prayed about the book of mormon or Joseph or the church because he felt unprepared, and the spirit that came as we watched the movie was incredible. As it finished they testified about the prophet, that he was a man of faith and of god.  We left as soon as possible, to leave the spirit with them, and he read the book of mormon again and prayed and received a confirmation, right then and there!  And from that point on, he is really becoming converted.  Seriously, the difference that praying and receiving this answer made is huge! He is not only accepting the invitations we leave with him, to live the word of wisdom, law of chastity, to honor the Sabbath day, but asking questions about these things even before we explain.  For example, he started thinking about the kind of music he listens to and the movies he watches, and thinking about what the lord would want of him in that aspect, even before we said anything!  We are so so blessed here.

Besides Marcos, we are working to find the other “elites” of the lord here in Parque Celeste. I know that the lord is always preparing people to receive the gospel and I am learning to have more faith each and every day.

We also had a ward activity this week that was super fun and neat because one of the purposes of ward integration activities is to have investigators come and that actually happened; and we played group charades which was super funny and did a mini-Easter egg hunt (with chocolate) in the church and it was just super fun (what about life isn’t cool or fun, right??? hahaha)

Oh! also last night when we were knocking doors, a man told me he was a cop and made me show my document that I was allowed to be there in Brazil, so good thing I had it so I didn’t get kicked out or something, haha!  Also this week a woman asked me why I was speaking Spanish if I was from the US… haha, because I speak Spanish right? #trilingual

In the end, there is always something to laugh about, every single day. And that’s how we can know that heavenly father has a good sense of humor 🙂   BUUUTTT I know I forgot a lot about this week that I wanted to say, but that’s okay.  One thing I wanted to share is that here it is incredible how so many people remember the crucifixion of the savior and forget the resurrection. THE SAVIOR LIVES!  And this is makes a huge difference! How grateful I am to be a member of his church, and to be able to come to know him more each and every day, and hopefully help others do so as well.

Um menino chamado Marcos

Translation- A boy named Marcos

Where to start?

Well, first of all, Happy Birthday, Megan!  You’re 22 now which means that I’m old… ha-ha! In remembrance and celebration, I will sing the Taylor Swift song.  I will sing it all day and also make a translation of it ha-ha and dance as much as I am allowed to… 🙂 (Love you, Sis!)

This week was a week FULL of miracles, and felicidades to be here in the mission.  It started with 3 days in a row of divisions with Sister G. Santos, I love her, and it ended with spending 3 days with my dear companion, I also love her too.  And the week ended with Marcos going to church!  He understands the gospel and our messages SUPER WELL and I am so happy to be working with him.

There was a man who asked me if I was from Rio Grande Do Sul (in the south ) and I said yes (oops) and he believed me but also he was drunk and we all started laughing so hard, and in that same hour there was a man who was desperately calling to us ” Good morning, good morning, GOOD MORNING, EXCUSE ME GOOD MORNING!”  And that’s just one example of the sort of fun we have here in the streets.

I completed 9 months, and can’t believe that its passing but I’m happy to stay here for 9 more. And just I’m happy.  I love you all, and miss you all!!

Arrepender é Melhorar

Translation- To repent is to become better

This week was full of conferences, and blessings. If I haven’t already told you, things are a party here with the Sisters I live with, and we are always finding something to laugh about- like the man who told me last week that his Portuguese from Portugal accent was because he was from Portugal in another life (trying to make me believe in reincarnation), or how we didn’t have money to pay for our acai but the man gave it to us anyway because he knows we’ll go back and pay since we eat acai so much, or coordinating the outfits for our zone to have a coordinated mission picture, or drinking terere  but not knowing how and having everyone mad at me for a minute… or how we played the BEST EVER April fools prank on our zone leaders (I’ll have to share that story another time)!  But this week was full of blessings from Pai Celestial.

We had zone conference, which is where half of the mission gets together to talk about what we can do to improve and be better missionaries. We learned about repentance, and how to feel like we are forgiven, we must have faith. Faith is to believe that the promises of the Savior are not only real but apply to us in the realest ways.

Although this week was short in terms of working hours, the Lord blessed us so much. After pleading with the Lord in prayer for help that we were desperately needing, he lead us to some people who are willing to know the gospel and follow the Savior.  We have been having difficulty finding people to teach but this week were super blessed. and everything we learned in the conference applied perfectly and it was all just perfect and a huge blessing.  It felt like general conference was planned by President Scholz because all of the talks were on things he has told us… like this very week, or maybe its because they are the things important for us to focus on in the gospel right now. The gospel and our lives can be as simple as we make them.  As we remember who the savior is, learn about him, and strive to be like him, we will have joy and be who the lord wants us, and needs us to be.

My favorite talks were the ones on the holy ghost, Elder Renlund, Elder Holland, and the other ones that talked about how repentance is improvement and happiness. I learned that not only do we need repentance when we make a mistake, but because as ´people we are imperfect- it is not only for mess ups or bad choices but our weaknesses too. And as I shared earlier, I loved remembering that there is NOTHING we can do to take away the love the lord has for us. And for this he has given us the holy ghost to comfort us and lead us to help strengthen his kingdom.

I know that the Lord will keep blessing me as I keep doing my part, and I know that as you do yours, he will bless you too.

This week I had a division with Sister Dunlop and she is the chiquest and I loved being with her and being with Americans sometimes, because is so funny and awesome and we laugh about how things are at home and things are here and just laugh and it reminds me a little of what it was like back home.

I don’t think there is a missionary luckier than I… and also I love you guys. Seriously, I hope you remember that I love each of you. I feel like I can’t say I love you enough…( or that I love Brasil enough). Have I said that I am happy to be here in the mission? Or that I love  acai? or talking about Jesus Christ? or doing Jilian Michael workouts every morning? 😉
